IVP New Testament Commentaries:
The IVP NT Commentaries are recent, scholarly works that cover the
whole New Testament. First rate scholars contributing to this series
include Craig Keener, Darrell Bock, Walter Liefeld, Gordon Fee and
J. Ramsey Michaels. The commentaries are similar in style to the
Tyndale commentaries so are well suited for academic study. Note
that not all NT commentaries are currently available. Highly
Recommended
Dr. Constable's Bible Commentary Notes:
An extraordinary resource. These Bible Study Notes, written by Dr.
Thomas L. Constable over a 25-year period, provide commentary on all
66 books of the Bible, and hold about 7,000 pages of material. Dr.
Constable's Notes, also known as expository notes to Dr. Constable's
seminary students, are intended to help you to better understand the
Bible. Highly recommended, especially for the copious introductions
to books of the Bible. However,
not suitable for citation.
Commentary on the gospel of Matthew:
Helpful commentary from drs Gijs van den Brink.
Dr. Craig L. Blomberg (Professor of New
Testament, Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary) gives a
recommendation of the commentary on Mathhew:
"
Many detailed, even multi-volume, critical commentaries on the
gospel of Matthew have appeared in recent years. Older, much shorter
works still prove serviceable for the busy pastor or teacher. But
few resources are currently available for the exegete or expositor
of Matthew that are both fully abreast of contemporary scholarship
and concise or succinct. Dr. Van den Brink has accomplished both
objectives; what is more, he writes from a position of solid
evangelical Christian conviction and maps out introductory positions
on the Gospel that prepare for accepting the substantial historicity
of the text in ways that differ from conservative and liberal
standards alike. While not a lengthy work, the comments in the body
of the text are extremely well chosen and exegetically both sane and
useful. For the thoughtful student of Matthew's volume wanting a
quick overview to the most crucial issues and perplexing problems of
a given passage, Van den Brink gives them most helpful guidance
indeed."
International Critical Commentary:
The International Critical Commentary has long held a
special place among works on the Bible. It brings together all the
relevant aids to exegesis: linguistic and textual, archaeological,
historical, literary, and theological, with a comprehensiveness and
quality of scholarship unmatched by any other series. Many volumes
of the International Critical Commentary (ICC) are available online.
